Amid the bustling rhythm of the capital, if you happen to stroll around Hoan Kiem Lake over the weekend, you might come across groups of volunteers in white shirts diligently picking up even the smallest pieces of trash. This is the “For a Litter-Free Hoan Kiem Lake” project — a dedicated environmental campaign initiated and sustained by Carpa Vietnam Trading Joint Stock Company (CarpaGlobal) to promote a green urban lifestyle.

The Origin of a Green Commitment and a Greater Vision

Officially launched in September 2018, “For a Litter-Free Hoan Kiem Lake” is not a short-lived campaign, having persevered for nearly 8 years. The project has attracted more than 50 volunteer staff members, divided into small groups to clean up specific areas. Together, they collected 30 kg of plastic and household waste around the lakeside — a famous tourist destination for both domestic and international visitors.

Picking up trash here goes beyond basic cleanup, carrying a broader vision:

  • Preserving a cultural symbol: Joining hands to protect Hoan Kiem Lake’s landscape, maintaining the image of a civilized and elegant capital in the eyes of international friends.
  • Promoting sustainable tourism: Contributing to building a green, clean, and beautiful tourism environment.
  • Cultivating a green lifestyle culture: Spreading environmental awareness through the smallest, most concrete actions.

A Close-Up Perspective: A Day with the “White-Shirt Volunteers”

Equipped with specialized trash tongs and eco-friendly biodegradable bags, the volunteers always appear with smiles and positive energy. The sight of these white-shirt figures patiently cleaning every tree base, stone bench, and drain cover around the lake has become a familiar, beautiful image — quietly contributing to a cleaner, fresher pedestrian zone. Here are the defining traits that shape the identity of this “Trash-Fighting Squad”:

Equipment & Gear: The squad is equipped with specialized trash tongs, biodegradable bags, and their signature white uniforms.

Operating Hours / Schedule: The project is maintained weekly, focusing on weekend hours when foot traffic around Hoan Kiem Lake peaks.

Spirit of Participation: Volunteers always spread positive energy, friendliness, and readiness to guide locals — especially children — to join this meaningful experience.

Team Spirit: Picking Up Trash Together

One of the core values driving the project’s vitality is a strong sense of unity. Regardless of department or rank, CarpaGlobal members voluntarily sign up for weekend cleanup sessions. These moments of picking up trash together are not only about environmental cleanup, but also serve as a bond that strengthens camaraderie — transforming hard work into a joyful and meaningful extracurricular activity.

Community & Media Recognition

The project’s greatest success is measured not only in numbers, but in its powerful ripple effect. These relentless efforts have gained attention and recognition from the press and mass media outlets.

The noble actions of the volunteer team have created a wonderful domino effect:

For local residents: They have begun paying more attention to disposing of trash in designated areas and proactively reminding each other to keep communal spaces clean.

For the younger generation: Many children walking with their families enthusiastically asked to borrow tongs to join in picking up trash, creating vivid, real-life environmental education lessons.

For international tourists: Many foreign visitors rolled up their sleeves to join the cleanup, spreading the message of green tourism and leaving behind beautiful moments of cultural exchange.

The “For a Litter-Free Hoan Kiem Lake” campaign serves as vivid and clear proof of CarpaGlobal’s commitment to sustainable development in Vietnam.

Environmental protection has never been a story for just one person. Through diligent steps around Hoan Kiem Lake every week, we hope to inspire everyone to readily become a “green warrior” protecting their living environment.
